The Right to Repair Campaign (R2RC) is fighting for the rights of independent garages to have access to technical information that is needed to repair motor vehicles effectively and safely. Under current EU regulations (Block Exemption) vehicle manufacturers must make information freely available to independent repairers. However, this regulation is due to end in 2010 and the European Commission has written a report recommending that it is not renewed.

Failure to renew Block Exemption will mean that independent repairers will be unable to repair or service vehicles and as a consequence will go out of business. With no independent garages, the motorist will have no choice but to take their vehicles to the manufacturers dealerships and with reduced competition will inevitably be faced with a huge increase in repair costs.
