The Right to Repair Campaign (R2RC) has fought for the rights of independent garages to have access to technical information that is needed to repair motor vehicles effectively and safely. Under current EU regulations (Block Exemption) vehicle manufacturers must make information freely available to independent repairers. However, through fierce campaigning this regulation which was due to end in 2010 has now been renewed.

Failure to renew Block Exemption would have meant that independent repairers would be unable to repair or service vehicles and as a consequence would go out of business. With no independent garages, the motorist will have no choice but to take their vehicles to the manufacturers dealerships and with reduced competition will inevitably be faced with a huge increase in repair costs.
